To Ride or Not to Ride (the AI Hype Train)
The AI hype has all the properties of a tech bubble, so the question I get asked quite often is how to behave in a situation like this. Should one ignore all the buzz or embrace it fully, especially as a tech worker?
It may sound obvious, but given how loaded the topic is and the scale of the current hype cycle, it’s worth stating anyway: Use AI for the things it is objectively good at, but don’t bet your future on it.
As people working in tech, I believe that getting an understanding of how all of this works is extremely important, even if one is skeptical. So how do you find the good use cases for AI? There are no shortcuts here, learning only happens when you get your hands dirty by building something. You will be able to help others cut through the hype while finding scenarios where AI can truly be useful. By only relying on what others tell you about the topic (especially those who have a vested interest in you believing it), you expose yourself to BS and will think that the tech is better than it actually is. There are so, so, so, SO many examples of reality popping the hype bubble.
With this said, what are you waiting for? Start digging and build something fun today!
